HUGE thanks to the good crowd that came out to support the band and the cause! Here are some pictures from the event (and our little table and no, contributions don’t go to buying iPads…it was borrowed)!

That’s over 500,000 children (provided they survive) becoming orphans from the time they are born. A great majority of these maternal mortalities are preventable by basic OB/GYN care. With modern medicine as it is, this just should not be.

Over 2 million more are orphaned each year because of HIV/AIDS.

You read those numbers and you can’t help but be taken back.  And that’s where it usually ends. Sure you may even think that there’s something you can do about it, but what have you done?

Think about this. Each of those 145 million orphans have a name. They have a face. They have a story. They are real children. Perhaps it’s those very statistics that shock us also de-humanize these orphans. They get lost in the numbers.

In one day, the earthquake in Haiti resulted in over 30,000 orphans. Last year, the US internationally adopted 12,753 children. If one out of three churches in the US had one family to adopt a child, there would no longer be a need for the foster care system. There is a problem.

The first step towards change is awareness. Get the word out.
